Toto was founded in 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also acclaimed studio musicians with Boz Scaggs) and singer/bassist Bobby Kimball. The third album from Toto, Turn Back, was a failure in 1981. However they made amends with their fourth release, Isolation, which contained two hit songs including the title track and Roseanna. The album and tour makes them a household name throughout the world.
After a brief break, Toto returns with the album Fahrenheit. It's a change from the ballads that were featured on previous albums and includes some heavy rock. It was their first platinum album in North America.

Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, takes over Fergie Frederiksen as lead vocalist. The band releases Mindfields in 1999 and embarks on a huge tour around the world. After a few weeks in Europe, the band heads to Japan for sold-out shows. After a brief break, Toto resumes recording and begins recording their first live album, Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes the cover of Weezer's track Hash Pipe in response to the band performing their hit song Africa on their recent tour. Toto's touring lineup is completed by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.
